ROME — A Rome man accidentally shot himself in the leg while cleaning a 9mm pistol on East Dominick Street Monday morning, according to the Rome Police Department.

Police said Devon W. Kampmann, 22, claimed he was cleaning a friend's 9mm pistol around 10:52 a.m. Monday when it accidentally discharged and fired through his leg. Kampmann was in an upstairs apartment in the 700 block of E. Dominick Street.

Kampmann called 911 and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said. The investigation remains ongoing.
