Rome Lions Club passion for community service warms hearts during cold times

Service projects are synonymous with Rome Lions Club, including the Children’s Clothing Drive.

With the frigid temperatures and harsh winter striking the area, there is the reality of children needing warm clothing.

A recent anonymous donation was made to the Lions club. Several members purchased an assortment warm weather clothing. Winter outfits were sorted — coats, snow pants, hats, mittens, etc. — for children. Approximately 250 winter coats/outfits were delivered to the Salvation Army and Connected Community Schools to be distributed to children.

Lion President Mary Chmielewski presided over the project.

“Kindness matters. It’s an incredible thing, when caring people join together and take action to make their community better,” said Chmielewski. “It is a commitment to service and caring attitude that makes a Lion.”

The Rome Lions Club meets once a month on the fourth Tuesday at the Rome Art and Community Center, 301 W. Bloomfield St., at 6 p.m. Lions clubs are a group of passionate community members who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
