Rome Lab honors local award winners on Heritage Day

ROME - The Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate, which leads the Air Force and Nation in Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) and Cyber science, technology, research, and development, will celebrate Heritage Day at the labs today.

For more than 65 years, AFRL has celebrated Heritage Day to honor individuals and teams for their contributions to the operations and mission of AFRL, according to an announcment by AFRL officials.

The awards are named in honor of past leaders of the Rome Air Development Center, Rome Lab, and Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate. The event also acknowledges recent patent awards. 

The following are the 2021 Air Force Research Laboratory Heritage Day Honorees in their respective categories:

Dr. Lee Seversky — Raymond P. Urtz Award;

Secure Mobile Digital Operations Team (SMDO) — John A Graniero Award;  

Dr. Walter Bennette — Joseph J. Naresky Award

Autonomy & Artificial Intelligence International Team — AFRL International Team Award

Dr. Ngwe Thawdar — Ralph I. Cole Scientist/Engineer of the Year;

Robert Denton — Major General John C. Toomay Award;

Dr. Andre Beckus and Dr. Alvaro Velasquez —Fred I. Diamond Award;

Multi-Domain Dynamic Targeting (M2DT) Team —RI Research and Technology Team Award;
