Rome Historical Society, 200 Church St., will present a virtual program, Airplane Tales, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Participants can view the program at: Facebook.com/romehistorical or on Zoom with advance registration: (https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYlc-2srDwrEtMP6iXU8-Hn_4JnqeVFjR1R).

Jim Coulthart, a local amateur military aviation historian and enthusiast, will discuss his most recent research.

Airplane Tales will explore a collection of WWII aircraft anecdotes, incidents, and accidents with ties to Central New York.

The stories involve aircraft named “Getaway Gertie,” “Hot Stuff,” “Pistol Ball,” “Genevieve,” “Old Hellcat” and a few others, the Rome Historical Society said in its announcement of the program.

Coulthart has spent a year and a half compiling family accountings, newspaper clippings, online resources, and official reports to develop the program and illuminate the rich local aviation history.

Participants will experience invigorating stories of some military aircraft in Central New York with historic photographs from Rome Historical Society’s collection, the organization’s announcement added.

RHS is a non-profit organization. For more information, call 315-336-5870, like them on Facebook, or visit their website at www.romehistoricalsociety.org.
