Mike Zarnock, an expert on Hot Wheels toys and collectibles will share the history of the brand and shares his experiences as a collector during a Rome Historical Society virtual program — Hot Wheels: A Local Authority — on Wednesday, March 17, at
5:30 p.m.

The Hot Wheels line of toy racing cars, registered trademark with Mattel, was started in 1968 by Mattel co-founder Elliot Handler, and became popular not just with children but with toy collectors throughout the world.

Zarnock, a local author and columnist from Deerfield, has written extensively about Hot Wheels and has a collection of over 30,000 of the toy vehicles.

His collection has held a Guinness World Record twice - first in 2003 and again in 2007. Parts of his collection have also been on display in such places as the Children’s Museum of Utica.
