The Rome Fire Department issued a warning on Tuesday that they do not solicit money over the telephone, and anyone who receives such a call is likely dealing with a scam.
Fire Chief Thomas Iacovissi said one of his firefighters was approached by a Rome resident recently and the resident claimed they had received a telephone call from the “Rome Firefighters Association” asking for money. The chief said there is no such organization and the actual Rome Fire Department and their benevolent association do not ask for money in that way.
“We don’t solicit money and we certainly don’t make phone calls or go door-to-door to solicit money,” Chief Iacovissi stated. “It’s a scam.”
Anyone who receives such a call is advised to hang up and not send any money to the caller.
