Rome Democrats seek potential candidates

The Rome Democratic Committee is seeking residents interested in running for seats on the city’s Common Council, including council president; as well as city clerk and for seats on the Oneida County Legislature in this fall’s elections.

“We need our representative government to represent all of our local and regional citizenry, and need to work together to move our city and county forward. As a party, we need to promote Democratic ideals and make sure our individual and collective voices are heard,” said City Committee Chair Angela Topi.

“Both the Rome Council and County Legislature are underrepresented by Democrats, and there needs to be more parity amongst these boards,” Topi said. The Common Council is comprised of a representative from each of the city’s seven wards. Councilors serve a two-year term. The Oneida County Legislature has 23 seats, with several seats representating portions of the city, and all its seats are up for election this fall.

The committee will be screening and endorsing candidates on Monday, Feb. 27. Interested individuals can contact the Rome Democratic committee by telephone at 315-339-6024 or by email at romedemocrats@gmail.com.
