The Rome Academy of Sciences is seeking nominations for the Class of 2019 to join the Rome Science Hall of Fame.
The hall aims to recognize and honor persons, past and present, who have contributed substantial achievements in the areas of science, according to an academy announcement.
Among science categories under consideration: Behavioral and Social Sciences, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Medicine and Health, Microbiology, Physics, Space Sciences and Zoology.
The recognition categories will include Upcoming Science Achievement, for Rome Free Academy graduating seniors who have shown exceptional attributes including at least a 95 GPA (Grade Point Average) in the sciences and at least a 90 overall GPA; and Lifetime Achievement, for individuals with exceptional contributions to science fields over a distinguished career.
Citing the City of Rome’s generosity, the academy noted it has been given a wall in City Hall to display the Hall of Fame inductees.
Anyone from the city can nominate a person for the Lifetime Achievement recognition providing that the person meets criteria including outstanding achievement in any of the sciences in college or graduate school; being or having been a teacher, mentor or administrator who made a significant contribution to the sciences; performing or having performed an unusual or distinguished service in fostering, developing or electively helping in furtherment of the sciences; having been a Rome-area resident for 10 or more years.
