MARCY — A regional youth robotics championship event in conjunction with the international program FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) will be Sunday from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at SUNY Polytechnic Institute's Marcy campus.
Qualifying teams have advanced from preliminary competitions around the state, said SUNY Poly.
The event will include FIRST Tech Challenge teams comprised of teens from ages 12-18, who will collaborate and compete with their customized robots. Robots are designed, built, and programmed in Java to accomplish various tasks with and against other robots in a "Relic Recovery" challenge, said SUNY Poly. Four robots run on the tournament field together, gathering 6-inch cubes and stacking them into specific patterns as they attempt to balance evenly on raised platforms.
A championship event at SUNY Poly for FIRST Lego League teams of children ages 9-14 that had been slated for Saturday has been rescheduled for March 10 due to inclement weather, the college said.
