Rita Dixon Moring, 97, died peacefully on June 26, 2018, with loving family members at her side, in San Antonio, TX. Born April 24, 1921 to Helen S. and Thomas L. Dixon, she was raised in North Bay, New York, and graduated from Camden High School.
Her adult life was spent with the American Red Cross, serving in numerous military hospitals. Her career took her to Japan, Korea, Germany, Libya and Puerto Rico, as well as military facilities in the United States. She was the Red Cross Hospital Field Director at Ft Devens, Mass; Wheelus AFB, Libya; Munich, Germany; Westover AFB, Mass. and Ft Meade, Md. On June 22, 1974, she married Dr. (Col) John B. Moring, MC Ret. This union blessed her with seven stepchildren, whom she called her own. They resided in San Antonio, Texas, until Dr. Moring died June 20, 2005. In 2006, she moved back to the Dixon family home in North Bay, NY.
Rita enjoyed membership in the DAR, 01’ Shavano Chapter, San Antonio, TX; Women’s Overseas Service League, San Antonio Unit; San Antonio Garden Center; Sylvan Gate Garden Club, and the Conservation Society of San Antonio. She was a member of St. Jude Guild of St Pius X and enjoyed the St. Pius X Bridge group.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Marie Dixon of Sylvan Beach, NY; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Kay and Skip McAdams of San Antonio; Ann Moring and Carl Parris of Rhinebeck, NY; Lisa and Kim Landry of College Station, TX; two sons, John and Eleanor Moring of Boerne, TX; Greg Moring of Breitenbush Hot Springs, OR; and daughter-in-law Nancy Moring of Oskaloosa, KS. She is also survived by twenty beloved grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and many treasured nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her daughter Laura E. Nelson; son Stephen E. Moring; grandson Thomas B. McAdams; and granddaughter Elizabeth A. Moring. Also her brothers Thomas A. Dixon, Richard J. Dixon and sisters Eileen Terzini and Cecelia Capparelli.
A Memorial Mass will be held at The Village of Incarnate Word Chapel, 4707 Broadway, San Antonio, TX, on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 1 p.m. Interment and Memorial Mass will be at a later date in North Bay, New York.
