Richard J. Havener, 88, of Durhamville, passed away at home on Sunday, July 1, 2018. He was born in Durhamville on January 5, 1930, the son of the late Frederick and Hilda (Wood) Havener. He was married to the former Ann M. Flannigan. She passed away in 1982. On November 22, 1999, he married Virgena Brower.
Richard was a self-employed logger who worked right up until a couple of years ago.
He was a veteran of the US Army.
Surviving besides his loving wife Virgena, are: three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ann and Jerry Edick of Rome, Nancy and John Beckwith of Westdale and Julie and Todd King of Sherrill; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Debbie Havener of Sherrill, Roger Havener of Higginsville and Ronald and Laurie Havener of Westernville; two sisters and brother-in-law, Agalice Mahoney of Sherrill and Elizabeth and Glen Cooper of Vernon; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Ruby Havener of Tennessee; three step-children, Ed and Beth Bean, Harold and Dawn Bean and Ken and Tracy Bean; nineteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Jr.; two sisters, Nancy Havener and Elsie Agan; five brothers, Grove, Frederick, William, Charles and David; two grandchildren, Michelle and Donald Martin; and two step-children, Greg Bean and Penny Fromey.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, at 6:30 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Graveside services will be held on Thursday July 5, at 11 a.m. at Grove Cemetery on Irish Ridge Road in Higginsville. Family and friends are invited to call the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from 4-6:30PM.
