Richard D. Grifasi, of Orange County, California, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2018. He was born on September 26, 1928 in Rome, New York, son of Gaetano and Assunta Carletta Grifasi. He married the love of his life, Carla Coia Grifasi, a union of many decades. Besides being a teacher in southern California, Richard also was an entrepreneur and owned several successful businesses throughout his lifetime. One of his cherished accomplishments was the publication of the book “Tales of Youth” about his experiences growing up in central New York.
Richard is survived by his three loving daughters, Stephanie Malorzo Fukuyama (Mark), Mission Viejo, California; Carlene Malorzo Scott, and Marlene Grifasi Zarzycki (Tomasz). He is also survived by three brothers, Salvatore Grifasi (Toni), Bel Air, Maryland; Ned Grifasi and James Grifasi (Marie), both of Rome, New York. He was predeceased by his wife Carla, his brother Francis Grifasi, and sisters Grace Grifasi Calandra and Marie Grifasi Giardino. He also has many cousins, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews all across the United States.
Richard’s family enjoyed his many visits to Rome. We will all miss his colorful stories about his life in central New York. The family would like to acknowledge Cathy and Ed Lambert for being gracious hosts to Richard and his grandchildren throughout the years. Richard and Carla always welcomed Romans to their home and we have many fond memories that will last forever.
