Rome Free Academy senior girls lacrosse player Alexandra Tapia has signed her National Letter of Intent to play Division II lacrosse at the College of Saint Rose in Albany on Wednesday afternoon at RFA Stadium.
“I picked this school because when I got to meet my coach and teammates for the first time, I knew I liked the environment and it satisfied my major,” Tapia said.
Tapia will major in communications while playing for the Golden Knights. She had 32 goals and 10 assists for the Black Knights last season. Tapia was named a first-team all-star for lacrosse and was named the RFA offensive MVP. She was also named a first-team all-star for indoor track and she was named MVP of the gymnastics team. She’s also a member of the National Honor Society.
“I have to say, I couldn’t be prouder of this young lady,” former RFA head coach Doug Rowe said. “I was really hard on her every year to speak up, find the assist and attack the goal. She never once barked back and just kept on building her game. She could have quit but instead signed her National Letter of Intent to play college lacrosse today. Alex will make our Rome girls lacrosse program very proud.”
Assistant girls lacrosse coach Nick Medicis added, “Congratulations Alex! Watching you grow up from a quiet 8th grader on JV to signing to play at the next level, we couldn’t be prouder!”
