RFA’s Crockett places fifth at indoor track nationals


NEW YORK — Rome Free Academy junior Sarah Crockett placed fifth out of 39 girls in the Emerging Elite Weight Throw at the New Balance Indoor Track and Field National Championships on Friday at the Armory Track Center.

Crockett turned in a personal-best distance of 49 feet, 1 inch on her first throw in the finals. Earlier in the competition during the trials, she had her best throw of the year of 46-8 1/2.

Jacquelyn Andrews of Lincoln, R.I. won the event with a distance of 50-1 1/4.

Crockett, who completed her first season of indoor track for the Black Knights, also participated in the shot put on Friday. She placed 23rd with a distance of 36-10 1/2.

Last Saturday at the state indoor meet at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, Crockett placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 37-1 3/4 and was 13th in the weight throw with a distance of 43-2 1/4.
