RFA works overtime to earn boys soccer win


The Rome Free Academy boys soccer team needed overtime but got a 3-2 win over Utica Proctor on the road in the Tri-Valley League Thursday.

The game was tied 1-1 at the half and each team added a goal in the second half.

But it was RFA that had the lone goal of overtime.

Collin Gannon scored and had an assist for RFA.

Also scoring for the Black Knights were Lucas Yanik and Tanner Brawdy.

Aiden Goodwin made five saves in net for RFA to earn the win.

Ismail Borow and Siidahmed Somow each scored a goal for the Raiders, while Amir Halilovic and Ale Seho added one assist apiece.

RFA hosts Holland Patent at 1 p.m. today in a non-league match.

Bulldogs drop CSC match

In a girls Center State Conference tennis match, Westmoreland lost to visiting Sauquoit Valley, 3-2.

Winning for the Bulldogs in doubles action were the teams of Lily Mazur and Autumn Millington and Ariana Malerba and Melissa Spicer.

Westmoreland is 6-3 this season and plays again on Tuesday when they host Little Falls at 4 p.m.
