The Rome Free Academy marching band, which has extended its unbeaten streak in competitive events this year to three, is seeking the community’s support as it heads into the second half of its season.
The RFA Marching Black Knights “would like to invite the community to come out and support these students before the fall season ends,” said band director Grayson Keller Shelton.
At a New York State Field Band Conference competition in Oswego on Sept. 21 “the band again took first place in its division, continuing a streak of being unbeaten in competition so far this season,” said Shelton. That followed first-place showings in band competitions the prior two weekends before that, at Jordan-Elbridge High School and Old Tappan, N.J., respectively.
The band also has performed at RFA’s home football games on Sept. 20 and 27.
Its remaining performances include:
Oct. 12 at New Hartford;
Oct. 18 at the RFA football game at RFA Stadium;
Oct. 19 at Orchard Park;
Oct. 21 in a community show at RFA stadium; and
Oct. 27 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
In addition to its winning results this year, the band last October won a state championship in the Large School 3 competitive category.
