RFA junior McLeod earns spot on all-state basketball team

Rome Free Academy junior guard Amya McLeod earned a spot on the New York State Sports Writers Association all-state team for the 2021-22 season. She was named to the Class AA sixth team.

McLeod, a 5-foot-7 guard who average 23.9 points per game, rocketed up the list of RFA’s all-time scorers this season. She scored 533 points and now sits in third place on that list with 1,235 lifetime points, 109 points behind Lori Keys for second. Nikki Jo Rotolo is the all-time leading scorer in RFA history with 2,030 points.

McLeod has verbally committed to attending Division I Youngstown State in Ohio to play basketball.

In Class A, Whitesboro senior Cecelia Lapertosa earned honorable mention status. The 6-foot-1 forward averaged 20.2 points per game this season.

In Class B, Oneida senior Kaylin Curro earned a spot on the eighth team. The 5-foot-5 guard averaged 20.1 points per game.

Utica Notre Dame sophomore Maggie Trinkaus was an honorable mention in Class B. The 5-foot-10 forward averaged 13.2 points per game.

In Class D, Poland junior Logan Cookinham was named to the second team. The 5-foot-6 guard had a 24.5 points-per-game average.
