RFA girls place first in Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Invite

The Rome Free Academy girls indoor track and field team took first in Saturday’s Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Invitational at Utica University. RFA’s Imani Pugh won the long jump with a new school record of 17 feet, 9.5 inches.

RFA had 79 points. Cazenovia was second (68), Herkimer was third (52), Vernon-Verona-Sherrill was fourth (46) and Fayetteville-Manlius was fifth (43).

Pugh broke Olivia Griggs’ record on 17 feet, 8.5 feet set in 2019. Pugh was also first in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.63 seconds.

Marlo Townsend won the 3,000-meter race with a time of 11:09.75. She was also fourth in the 1,000.

The 4-by-800 team of Julissa Luciano, Shavaia Parry, Gianna Badolato and Kaylea VanDeusen was first with a time of 11:03.29. VanDeusen was also fourth in the 3,000.

Katherine DeHimer was second in the high jump with a career best five feet. She was also second in the pole vault.

Maylasia Thomas was second in the shot put and fifth in the weight throw.
