Jace Hunzinger scored three times and had two assists for five points as the Rome Free Academy girls lacrosse team moved to 6-0 Thursday after it beat host Whitesboro, 11-2.
Alyssa Nardslico also had five points, scoring twice and assisting on three goals. Shannen Calandra and Alexandra Tapia scored two goals apiece for the Black Knights, who play again on Tuesday when they host New Hartford at 6 p.m.
HP softball gets third win
The Holland Patent softball squad moved to 3-0 on the season after it defeated Center State Conference host Sherburne-Earlville 6-0 on Wednesday.
The Golden Knights tallied nine hits, three of them doubles in the game. The doubles came off the bats of Natalie Yutzler, Hanna Rossi and Sydney Aucompaugh.
Rossi also earned the win in the circle.
HP hosts Clinton tonight at 7.
Oriskany defeats Brookfield
The Oriskany softball team got a 12-4 road win over Brookfield Thursday.
Jordan Carlo got the win in the circle for Oriskany. She pitched a complete game striking out seven, allowing four hits and walking three.
Juliette Tagliaferri was 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Phelan Shannon also homered for Oriskany and was 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs. Lani Roberts had two doubles. Ashley Reid was 2-for-5 with a triple and 3 RBIs.
Oriskany is at Westmoreland at 4:30 p.m. today.
Oneida extends TVL streak
The Oneida softball team beat Central Valley Academy on the road 13-5 Thursday to extend its Tri-Valley League win streak to four.
Oneida’s Kerrigan Crysler threw a complete game, allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out five.
Offensively, Oneida scored three in the first then used five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Kaylin Curro had four hits and drove in four runs.
Oneida is now 4-1, and will participate in the Mudville Tournament this weekend.
HP tennis blanks Canastota
The Holland Patent boys tennis team took all five matches against Canastota at home Thursday.
Glen Gage, Thomas Breil and Carter Williams each won their singles matches in two sets.
The doubles pairs of Christopher Kelly and Dylan McGuire as well as William Zimmerman and Daniel Carhart each won in two sets
HP hosted Cooperstown today.
Canastota hosts Hamilton Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Camden edges Whitesboro
The Camden boys tennis team beat Whitesboro 2-1 Thursday.
All three matches were singles. Zach Ellis of Whitesboro won, then Camden’s Thomas Potter won. Ethan Brazie took a forfeit for Camden.
VVS falls at New Hartford
The New Hartford girls lacrosse squad beat Vernon-Verona-Sherrill 17-3 at home Thursday on Senior Night.
Arayla Garcia scored two of the Red Devils’ goals. Sierra Kinne scored another.
Kaitlyn Kinne stopped six shots in goal for VVS.
New Hartford was led by Ilana McCarthy with four goals, a hat trick and four assists from Mary Fiorentino and hat tricks from Sophia Campola and Sam Smith.
Emily Picolla made three saves in net for the Spartans.
VVS will play at Indian River Saturday at 10 a.m.
