RFA cruises to road victory behind Mecca’s hat trick


The Rome Free Academy hockey team skated to a 9-1 win over Ontario Bay on the road Tuesday night as Danny Mecca netted a three-goal hat trick.

RFA was up 6-0 after one period.

In addition to Mecca’s three goals, Kyle Clark had two and an assist.

Jake Hall had two goals as well. Griffin Eychner and Jake Premo also scored. Knights who earned an assist each were Aaron Russell, Eli Dormio, Logan Dorfman, Jared Hussey and Michael Bostwick.

In goal for RFA, Isaiah Nebush started and got the win, stopping 17 of 18 shots in 37 minutes of game time. Brandon Gannon replaced him and stopped all five shots he faced in eight minutes of work. Lenny Dormio then took over in goal, stopping all four shots faced in six minutes.

Clinton doubled up

The Clinton boys team lost to Cortland/Homer, 4-2.

Clinton’s goals were scored by Nolan Provost and Ethan Carr. Nick Frank, Antonio Femia and Corbin Melie had assists.

In goal for the Warriors, Josh Trask stopped 32 of 36 shots
