UTICA — A 21-year-old man is charged with weapons possession after a reported burglary at the Michael Walsh Apartments, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said they were dispatched to the apartment complex on Gray Avenue at about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday for a reported burglary in progress.

Police said the suspects had fled the scene by the time law enforcement arrived and officers began to search the area.

A group of people matching a description of the suspects was found at Noyes and York streets, and police said they all fled in different directions when approached.

One of the men, 21-year-old Najaquan Reed, of Utica, was caught and detained and taken into custody, police said. The officers then backtracked Reed’s route and checked security cameras in the area to find that he had discarded a .38-caliber revolver, which was recovered, authorities said.

Reed is charged with one count each of second-degree possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
