Restaurants sought to participate in Madison Local Eats program

WAMPSVILLE — Madison Local Eats is back and looking for local restaurants to participate in this gift card matching program.

Restaurants have until Friday, Oct. 1, to sign up. Once a list of participating restaurants is confirmed, individuals will be able to register for vouchers and double their money.

“The first round of Madison Local Eats was a great success,” said Madison County Board Chairman John Becker. “It pumped over $290,000 into our local economy, half of that was matching Madison County funds. Unfortunately, not all the vouchers claimed online were redeemed in the restaurants. So, Madison County is including that money in this Fall program.”

“The holidays are right around the corner, and it is never too early to start checking people off your present list,” Becker continued. “A gift card for a good meal is always a great gift idea. Madison Local Eats is the perfect way to save yourself money and help our local businesses to get back on their feet.”

Many of the restaurants who participated in the first round were pleased with the results. Many even said it brought new customers through their doors.

Tonya Starkey, the co-owner of The Toast in Cazenovia, said, “It is well worth it.”

“Madison Local Eats” is a program from Buy Madison County. If you are an independently owned restaurant in Madison County and would like to participate in “Madison Local Eats” this Fall, visit to sign up.

Businesses have until Oct. 1 to register. The way the program works is customers, beginning Oct. 13, can go to to claim vouchers for either $20, $50, or $100 gift cards to a participating restaurant. The voucher is sent by email once claimed.

To redeem the voucher, bring either a printed or a virtual copy of the email to the restaurant, by Nov. 14, to be exchanged for a gift card.

When redeeming the voucher, the customer pays half of the full amount of the voucher to the restaurant. For example, with a $50 voucher, the customer pays $25 and the restaurant issues the customer a $50 gift card. Madison County reimburses the other half of the gift card cost to the restaurant.

The Madison County reimbursement comes from the $13.7 million the County received as part of the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
