Rescue plan earmarks aid for restaurants, families, workers

A March 25 letter thanking Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-22, for her no vote on the American Rescue Plan is based on a false premise. The writer states its projects “… have little or nothing to do with helping the American people.” Oh really?

The ARP allocates $44.3 million in relief to Oneida County families, workers and restaurants and small businesses struggling to keep employees on their payroll. Does its funding for day care, health care and unemployment insurance for workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own have little or nothing to do with us?

Plus, Rome will receive $25.9 million in additional funding. Mayor Izzo stated: “We’ll certainly put the money to good use.”

The writer’s statement “I won’t send my check back, but I will use it to pay for the increasing cost of gasoline and groceries.” not only reveals her hypocrisy, but also implies President Biden is responsible for those increases. Gasoline prices started rising because of global forces of stagnant supply and rising demand -- under President Trump, no less. Supply chain disruptions caused grocery prices to spike at the start of Covid, which Trump said “will magically disappear”.

Thanks, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY, for the ARP.
