It’s that time of year that Relay for Life of Rome is gearing up for its annual fund-raiser that fights cancer. Relay for Life events are held overnight at the track at the State School for the Deaf on Turin Street. Individuals and teams camp out at the track with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times.
The theme for Relay 2019 is “Step Right Up and Relay.” It is based on a carnival theme. Money raised will battle cancer by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back, according to Relay for Life organizers.
Relay for Life of Rome will host an informational meeting at Copper City Community Connection, 305 E. Locust St. on Tuesday.
Banking and luminaries will start at 5:30 p.m.., with the meeting and committee reports to follow at 6 p.m. Meetings are generally finished by 7 p.m. For more information about Relay for Life, call 1-800-227- 2345 or visit www.cancer.org/relay or www.RelayForLife.org/RomeNY.
Those interested in forming a team because they have had a loved one, friend or co-worker affected by cancer, should come to the next meeting.
The meeting is an opportunity to learn about several team events such as Paint the Town Purple and luminaries, as well as fund-raising, organizers added.
Those who attend may ask questions and meet with the committee.
The informational evening is open to everyone in the community who is interested in participating in the Relay For Life of Rome on June 1 and 2.
