The American Cancer Society Relay For Life will kick off its new fundraising season with an event from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 at the Delta Lake Inn on Fish Hatchery Road.
The community is invited to come out and learn more about the Relay For Life movement and how they can help the American Cancer Society attack cancer in the community.
“The kickoff is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can make a difference in the fight against cancer,” said Robert Elinskas, staff partner for the event from the American Cancer Society.
“With the new trivia format, it’s also a fun way to spend some time, win some prizes and, hopefully, learn more about how the ACS makes a difference for the cancer patients and their families, too,” Elinskas added.
During the kickoff event, community members will have the opportunity to register a team for the Relay For Life event, which will be held on Saturday, June 1 at noon at the State School for the Deaf, 401 Turin St.
The Relay For Life movement of 3.5 million participants across the world unite at more than 4,500 events to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change.
Symbolizing the battle waged around the clock by those facing cancer, the event can last up to 24 hours and empowers communities to take a stand against cancer.
Since 1985, Relay For Life events in the U.S. have raised more than $6.3 billion.
The activities at the kick-off party includes: trivia contests, information on this year’s Relay For Life, Luminary, games, and food. The event is free to attend.
The theme for this year’s Relay is “Step Right Up and Fight Cancer.”
The theme is based on a carnival atmosphere. There will be carnival games to play with fabulous prizes to win.
Funds raised from Relay For Life events allow the ACS to attack cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer – from developing breakthrough therapies and innovative research, to building supportive communities that come together to help those affected by cancer with access to treatment.
