Region to host Miss New York pageant spring orientation

COOPERSTOWN — The Miss New York crown is coming to Cooperstown on April 9.

Candidates for the title of Miss New York will arrive for their annual orientation weekend to prepare for the upcoming Miss New York Scholarship Competition. The 46 candidates, from both the Miss and Teen categories, come from across New York state with titleholders representing the upper reaches of the Adirondacks, out to Buffalo, down to the Five Boroughs, as well as from across Central New York and out to the Southern Tier.

Not only will these women be competing for the title and job of Miss New York, they will also be vying for the opportunity to represent the Empire State on the historic Miss America Stage. The weekend kicks off with a celebratory Spring Soiree at the gorgeous Otesaga Resort Hotel, where candidates and guests will have the opportunity to mingle and share their talents as part of a talent show and cocktail hour.

Guests will also have the opportunity to meet the current Miss New York and Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen. Tickets for the event are available at

The weekend culminates with the candidates attending a day-long conference with the Board of the Miss New York Organization, where they will learn about the requirements of the job of Miss New York. Sydney Park, Miss New York 2021, placed in the Top 5 at Miss America and received one of two top Talent Awards for her presentation of her original piece, “Sit Like a Lady.”

Park’s performance was the first time a monologue-type talent was awarded the top score on the Miss America stage.

Park said they are excited to be bringing the Miss New York Organization to Cooperstown. “When I visited Cooperstown last August, I knew it was the perfect place to host our annual spring orientation weekend,” she said. “As Miss New York, my goal has always been to highlight the amazing destinations across New York, so I am excited that our candidates and volunteers will have the opportunity to visit and enjoy Cooperstown for the weekend.”

Gianna Caetano, Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen, competed at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Competition last July. She is currently a student at University at Buffalo. The next Miss New York and Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen will be crowned on May 29, 2022 at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill. The Miss New York Scholarship Organization is the state organization of Miss America. The largest provider of scholarships for women in the country, the Miss America Organization provides upwards of $5 million in cash and in-kind scholarships to women across the country. Young women compete in a 10-minute private interview, onstage interview, 90-second talent, and a social impact pitch describing their community service work. This past December, the organization celebrated its 100th Anniversary at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT where Emma Broyles, from Alaska, was crowned Miss America.
