HAPPENING TODAY: Reception to open Rome Regional 2022 Art Show
ROME — Rome Art Association will host an opening reception for the Rome Regional 2022 art show from 6-8 p.m. today at 252 W. Dominick St., a storefront between Copperccino’s and The Balanced Chef.
The exhibit features artists living within 100 miles of Rome. RAA President Adam Prescott Chrisman explained the show process started by artists submitting their work digitally for review by a jury of artists and educators.
“We received over 150 submissions from artists as far away as Canandaigua,” he said. “The jury then selected the 65 pieces that they felt created the most balanced show.”
This year the show judge was Mary Murray, curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica. She selected all of the major award winners, including the four cash prize winners for the show. There were also special guest judges from neighboring galleries that Rome Art Association works with.
“We are hosting our regional art show this year in a pop-up gallery, located in a previously empty storefront downtown,” said Prescott Chrisman. “We’ve done this in the past and it is extremely successful, and allows us to bring beautiful artwork into a blank space. The artwork on display is all different mediums including photography, acrylic, oil, wood burning, clay, paper and more. And all of the artwork is for sale.”
The opening reception is free and refreshments will be provided.
