CHADWICKS — A residence in Chadwicks and three smoke shops in Oneida and Lewis counties were targeted in a crackdown on untaxed cigarettes on Tuesday, according to the Oneida County District Attorney's Office.

Search warrants were executed at The Smoke Corner on Genesee Street in Utica; Yorkville Cigar Shop and Discount Beverage Center on Oriskany Boulevard in Yorkville; The Smokers Corner on South State Street in Lowville; and the residence at 105 Kay Circle in Chadwicks on Tuesday, investigators said.

A large number of cigarettes, THC vape pens, gummies, edibles and a felony amount of marijuana were seized from the businesses and the home, along with $470,000 in cash, authorities said. The search warrants were executed following two months of investigation.

Several people were taken into custody, authorities said. Their identities have not yet been released pending action by a grand jury, according to Oneida County District Attorney Scott D. McNamara.

Possession and sale of untaxed cigarettes are among the expected charges, authorities stated.

The raids were conducted by the DA's Office, alongside the New York State Division of Taxation and Finance, with assistance from the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, and police departments from New Hartford, Utica and Yorkville.
