Pugh, Warren, Youngs and Perez excel at indoor track and field state qualifiers
Rome Free Academy’s Imani Pugh is headed to the state championship meet after setting a new school record in the 55-meter hurdles Wednesday at the Section III indoor track and field state qualifiers at Onondaga Community College.
Pugh, a junior, ran the race in 8.47 seconds. She also qualified in the high jump with a height of five feet, three inches.
Three other local athletes qualified for two events each at states, all seniors.
Tanner Warren of Central Valley Academy won the 300-meter dash and the 600 to qualify for states in both.
Alyssa Youngs of West Canada won the long jump to qualify. She also qualified in the triple jump.
Hector Perez of Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica qualified for states in the 55-meter dash and 300-meter dash.
Here are the other local athletes who qualified for states:
- Senior Melia Couchman of Herkimer won the pole vault to qualify.
- Sophomore Addison Lazarek of Sauquoit Valley won the triple jump to qualify.
- West Canada Valley juniors Blake Reese and Iain Farber both qualified in the weight throw.
- Senior Arianna McClendon of New York Mills qualified in the 600-meter race.
- Junior Brynn Bernard of South Lewis qualified in the 1,500-meter race.
- Junior Collin Stafford of South Lewis qualified in the 1,600-meter race.
- Senior Jed Guenthner of Dolgeville qualified in the long jump.
The state meet is March 4-5 at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.
