UTICA — The publication Recycling Today recently released its annual list of ferrous and nonferrous metals processors in North America, naming Empire Recycling, which is headquartered in Utica, as the ninth largest nonferrous processor without an auto shredder.
Despite the challenges related to the pandemic, Empire Recycling, and other metals processors in North America, continued to buy, process, and sell materials throughout 2020. The rankings were based on the pounds of nonferrous metals, excluding stainless steel, that was processed in 2020.
“We couldn’t have done it without our loyal team who continued to work hard while the pandemic shut so much down,” said Steven Kowalsky, president and CEO of Empire Recycling Corporation. “We are busy, and we expect to remain strong as the demand rises for metals that are related to the green transition.”
In addition to its Utica location, Empire Recycling Corporation has scrap metal recycling facilities in Utica, Albany, Syracuse, and Waterloo. The company, officials said, has been family-owned and operated for 105 years and currently has more than 200 employees. It has grown to include the Empire Recycling Family of Companies - ConfiData, SMR Fibre, ERC Transportation, Truck 63 Fleet Maintenance, Empire Steel Innovations, and ERL Intermodal.
