Public invited to drum corps rehearsals


As the competition heats up on Drum Corps International’s 2015 Summer Tour, corps are inviting fans and neighbors to come out to watch them rehearse for Drums Along the Mohawk on Wednesday, July 29.

The 2015 line-up: Blue Knights of Denver, Colo.; Blue Stars of La Crosse, Wis.; Crossmen of San Antonio, Texas; Troopers of Casper, Wyo.; Oregon Crusaders, Portland, Ore.; Colts of Dubuque, Iowa; Pacific Crest of Diamond Bar, Calif.

Drums Along the Mohawk will be held at 7 p.m. at Rome Free Academy stadium at 500 Turin St. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Corps competing in Drums Along the Mohawk will be housed and rehearsing at the following locations:

• Blue Knights: Westmoreland High School, Route 233, Westmoreland.

• Blue Stars: New Hartford High School, 33 Oxford Road, New Hartford.

• Colts: New York State School for the Deaf, 401 N. Madison St.

• Crossmen: New York Mills High School, 1 Marauder Blvd., New York Mills.

• Oregon Crusaders: Strough Middle School, 801 Laurel St.

• Pacific Crest: Herkimer High School, 801 W. German St., Herkimer.

• Troopers: Rome Free Academy, 95 Dart Circle.

Drum and bugle corps have been very competitive in the past few weeks. At a recent DCI event, the Blue Stars, Colts, Crossmen and Troopers were all vying to capture the coveted 12th spot going into the DCI championships to be held in Indianapolis, Ind. in August.

This year’s $5 discounted tickets are available now at the RFA Stadium ticket box office, which is open 5:30-8:30 p.m. daily; at the door all day on the day of the show and fans can also order from the secure show website www.drumsalongthemohawk.comor by calling 339-6484. Tickets are $18 and $13.

Parking will be extremely limited around the stadium. Drums Along the Mohawk and its sponsor, Hale Transportation, will provide a free shuttle bus service from both St. John’s Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. The buses will begin running at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until the last person has returned to their car after the show.

A bus will remain in front of the stadium at all times in case attendees need to return to their vehicle for any reason. Attendees are asked to utilize the shuttle bus as much as possible.

Coolers and umbrellas will not be allowed inside the stadium. Law also prohibits the use of audio or visual recording devices.
