Public can share input on trio of city projects
ROME — The city of Rome will host three consecutive information sessions to gather public comment on three ongoing projects within the Department of Community and Economic Development. The public information sessions will be in the form of a drop-in hour and will occur on Tuesday, May 23; Wednesday, May 24, and Thursday, May 25, from noon to 1 p.m. at City Hall in the atrium on the second floor.
Members of the public are invited to drop in at any point during those times to review the designs for all three projects — the redevelopment of the Fort Stanwix/James Street Parking Garage; the Erie Boulevard Downtown Transportation Alternative Project (TAP) Wheels to Heels project; and upgrades for Veteran’s Park and Gansevoort Park on North James Street — as well as provide feedback, and ask questions of the consultants and/or city staff.
City staff along with officials from Plumley Engineering will be present to discuss a concept design for the redevelopment of the James Street parking garage site into a public off-street parking facility. As part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, the new parking facility would replace the existing four-story parking garage and be focused on tourism and sustainable design.
Additionally, there will be updated plans on display for the Erie Boulevard Downtown Transportation Alternative Project (TAP) Wheels to Heels. Wheels to Heels is focused on the improvement of the segment of Erie Boulevard between South James Street and South George Street, and includes pedestrian, bicycle, and parking upgrades.
Attendees will be able to view and provide comments on changes that have been made since the last public session.
The third project that will be on display includes the upgrades that are planned for Veteran’s Park and Gansevoort Park on James Street. After consulting with the Rome Veteran’s Association, the Rome Historical Society, Fort Stanwix National Park, and the public, consultants have created a plan to provide improvements to both parks on James Street.
