Project helps Madison County Sheriff’s Office donate $900 to breast cancer fund
ONEIDA — Members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office donated $900 to the Laurie’s Legacy Fund of Oneida Health Foundation to support local breast cancer patients.
Oneida Health Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Oneida Health system which raises funds needed for health and patient needs which are not covered by health insurance. The Laurie’s Legacy Fund benefits local residents of Madison County who are currently battling breast cancer with needs like groceries, gas, medical bills and medical equipment.
In September, Deputy Adam Pexton and Investigator Frank McCully got together to do something for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
For the past few years, MCSO deputies have worn pink badges throughout the month, but they wanted to do more.
They came up with the idea of designing a T-shirt and selling them in hopes to make a profit that could be donated locally to help Madison County breast cancer patients.
Shirts were sold throughout the month of October to Sheriff’s Office employees, Madison County employees, and even some members of the public bought a shirt for the cause.
The sale was a great success, and after the cost of the shirts was taken care of, sales generated $900 that has now gone to Oneida Hospital.
The hope is to do T-shirts again next year and raise even more for those in the community who are battling breast cancer.
Other than from local donations, 80% of the funds distributed by Laurie’s Legacy are made possible through a grant awarded by Saint Agatha’s Fund.
