Program offers high school students opportunities to explore careers in dairy industry

Posted

The Dairy Prospects Program, directed by Cornell Cooperative Extension and funded by local agri-businesses, is a one-year program for students in grades 9-12 in Lewis and Jefferson counties who are interested in discovering opportunities in the dairy industry.

The program is run every other year, and the upcoming class runs from Fall 2022 until Spring 2023.

The program will consist of hands-on workshops and educational trips taking place 7 or 8 times during the coming school year. In past years, activities have included tours of successful dairy farms and agri-businesses, agricultural career-shadowing, hands-on dairy workshops, a tour of the USDA border inspection site, and tours of NY state agriculture colleges.

Upon completing the program, participants will be awarded a diploma certificate.

There are no pre-requisites for the program and applications are due by June 15, 2022. There is a $50 program fee, with the rest of the funding coming from generous industry and community sponsors.
