Powerful exhibit at RACC honors suffragettes

Women of Rome: Did you vote in the last local, state or federal election whether you liked the outcome or not?

If your answer is yes then your thanks should go to the suffragette women who were jailed, force fed, beaten and mocked in order to get the 19th amendment to the constitution passed allowing women to vote.

Currently at the Rome Art and Community Center, 308 W. Bloomfield St., there is an exhibit provided by the Women’s Fund of Herkimer and Oneida County which honors those courageous women.

The 10-piece exhibit is powerful, enlightening and most importantly educational.

Without reservation, I ask that you visit the Rome Art and Community Center until Friday, Sept 10, when the exhibit will move to the Kirkland Art Gallery where the pieces will be auctioned.

Bring your daughters, aunts, mothers and grandmothers — and yes the men in your families too — and help honor those brave women that shows them the respect they so richly deserve.
