ROME — Accused of breaking into her ex-girlfriend’s home and attacking her with a hatchet, a Rome woman is facing multiple charges, according to the Rome Police Department.

Police said Dametria M. Wall, 29, forced her way into her ex-girlfriend’s residence on East Bloomfield Street at about 1:20 a.m. Sept. 2. The victim attempted to hold the door closed and police said Wall forced herself inside and pulled a hatchet from her waistband.

Wall started swinging the hatchet at the other woman, threatening to kill her, police said. The victim had armed herself with a baseball bat and fought back, knocking the hatchet from Wall’s hands.

The victim’s teenage son, meanwhile, had called 911, authorities noted.

Wall fled out the back of the residence before law enforcement arrived, police said. The victim was treated for her injuries in the attack. A warrant was issued for Wall and police said she was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Wall is charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, fourth-degree mischief and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. She is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Wall was previously charged on Aug. 26 with possession of cocaine, police said. That case remains ongoing in City Court.
