NEW HARTFORD — Accused of stealing from the Macy’s department store twice in the same afternoon, a Utica woman is facing multiple charges.

Police said Stephany Liles, 28, grabbed multiple items and fled from Macy’s at the Sangertown Square Mall at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, leaving the mall in a blue sedan. Police said they located the vehicle a short time later and Liles was taken into custody.

Liles was charged with one count of fourth-degree possession of stolen property, a class E felony, and was released on an appearance ticket for court, police stated.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police said they were called back to Macy’s because Liles had returned and tried to steal more merchandise. On the second attempt, police said she was stopped by store security and was held for police.

Liles was then charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, and was released on another appearance ticket, police stated. She is scheduled to appear in court to answer both charges.
