A 53-year-old woman has been charged with hitting a man with her car during a fight on East Park Street earlier this year, according to law enforcement officials. Police said two men were involved in an argument and fistfight in the 100 block of E. Park St. at about 12:30 p.m. Jan. 24. During the scuffle, police said one of the men instructed a female companion to hit his opponent with her vehicle.
Police said the woman, Alice L. Ikema, of Liberty Gardens, was behind the wheel of a Jeep and surged forward, hitting the other man. Police said the victim landed on the hood, then slid off onto the ground when the woman put her vehicle in reverse.
Ikema and her companion fled the scene, and witnesses provided law enforcement with a description of the vehicle.
Following an investigation, police said the evidence was turned over to City Court to determine charges — and then City Court closed down for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that courts have reopened, authorities said the case was reviewed and Ikema was issued a summons to appear in court. Ikema surrendered herself to court on Tuesday and is charged with one count of second-degree reckless endangerment, police said. She was arraigned in court and was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to reappear in court.
Police said the fistfight itself remains under investigation and no charges have been filed so far.
