UTICA — A loaded handgun was seized following a domestic dispute on Utica’s west side Friday night, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said Ezra McClain, 39, of Utica, was in an argument with his girlfriend at a residence on Richardson Avenue at about 7:20 p.m.
Police said McClain choked the woman and threatened to shoot her during the argument.
Officers responded and made contact with the girlfriend inside the home.
Police said McClain eventually went down into the basement and officers went inside, then they encountered him near the rear of the residence.
Police said McClain fled out a back door and he was taken into custody a short time later.
The basement was searched and police said they found a loaded 9mm handgun and two extended magazines, the law enforcers said.
McClain is charged with one count each of second-degree harassment, criminal obstruction of breathing, criminal possession of a firearm and second and third-degree possession of a weapon, police stated.
He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court, the law enforcers added.
