Police say man threatened woman with machete at apartment complex
ROME — A 40-year-old man is accused of threatening and attempting to attack a woman with a machete at Bloomfield Garden Apartments early Sunday morning, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said Jeremy H. Godwin, of Rome, went to the woman's apartment with the weapon at about 4 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of E. Bloomfield St. Police said Godwin threatened the woman with the machete and then swung it at her, trying to hit her.
Godwin also used the machete to smash a glass table in the woman's bedroom, police stated. The attack was in violation of an order of protection filed against him.
Officers responded to the scene and said they found Godwin hiding in a neighboring apartment.
Godwin is charged with attempted third-degree assault, third-degree possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree mischief and first and second-degree contempt, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
