Police say man threatened clerk with knife to steal bottle of soda

A 34-year-old man is facing multiple charges after law enforcement officials said he threatened a store clerk at Tops with a knife in order to steal a bottle of soda.

Police said Steven C. Centore, of Martin Court, Annsville, asked an employee at Tops on Erie Boulevard West if he could leave the store without paying for a bottle of soda at about 9 a.m. Thursday. Police said the employee refused and tried to block Centore from leaving the store — so Centore pulled out a knife and threatened to cut the employee if they did not let him leave.

Police said Centore was pulled over a short time later on Route 365 at South James Street and he was found with seven pocket knives. Police said Centore was also driving on a revoked license.

Centore is charged with one count each of second-degree menacing, petty larceny, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlicensed operator, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
