YORKVILLE — The man who died in the motorcycle crash early Sunday morning while being chased by law enforcement has been identified as 45-year-old Nathaniel Harvey, of Whitesboro. The crash remains under investigation by the state Attorney General’s Office.

Yorkville Police said an officer on patrol found Harvey speeding on Oriskany Boulevard at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Police said the officer attempted to pull Harvey over, and Harvey began to slow down, but then Harvey suddenly accelerated. The chase continued along Route 69 into the Village of Whitesboro, where police said the officer saw the motorcycle start to hydroplane on the wet streets. When the officer caught up to the motorcycle, police said Harvey had been thrown off.

Harvey was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said a stolen and loaded handgun was found near the crash scene. The Oneida County District Attorney’s Office and the state Attorney General’s Office were contacted shortly after the crash. Yorkville Police said they are also conducting an internal investigation.

State law requires the Attorney General’s Office to investigate when a police officer is involved in a fatality.
