A man and woman are dead in a double homicide in Rome's outer district Monday morning, stabbed to death by the son of one of the victims, according to law enforcement officials.
The son, 30-year-old Kyle J. Kirk, is in custody on two counts of first-degree murder, state police said.
According to spokesperson Trooper Jack Keller, Kirk lived at the mobile home residence at 5959 Old Oneida Road with his father, 60-year-old Howard J. Kirk III, and Howard's girlfriend, 53-year-old Amanda L. Osborne. Keller said Kirk repeatedly stabbed both his father and Osborne multiple times at the residence sometime Monday morning.
At 11:52 a.m. Monday, a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report a person standing at the edge of the driveway covered in blood.
Responding officers identified Kirk standing outside. While speaking with Kirk, state police said they found Howard's body lying across the driveway, the victim of multiple stab wounds. Osborne was found later inside the residence, also the victim of multiple stab wounds, troopers said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Kyle J. Kirk is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, a class A-1 felony, and one count of third-degree possession of a weapon, a class D felony, troopers said. He is scheduled to appear in court.
The investigation is continuing.
