A Rome man is accused of having ongoing sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl earlier this year, according to law enforcement officials.
Anthony J. Melise, 37, of Rome, had sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl over a period of time between spring and early summer, said investigators with the county Child Advocacy Center. Following an investigation, Melise was taken into custody on Friday.
Melise is charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual act, a class B felony, authorities said. He was arraigned in City Court and was sent to county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court.
Authorities said the investigation is continuing and more charges are anticipated.
An order of protection has been filed against Melise on behalf of the child, who has also been offered counseling through the CAC.
