Plea deals offered in baby’s death

Plea deals have been offered to the Rome mother and father accused of causing the death of their 6-month-old child by leaving her unattended for more than 12 hours.

Brooke E. Renzi, 29, and Derek S. Dyer, 26, both appeared before County Court Judge Robert L. Bauer this morning. They are both charged with one count of criminally negligent homicide, a class E felony.

After speaking with their attorneys, Bauer said that plea deals had been offered to both by the District Attorney’s Office. The specifics of the deals were not released in court. Bauer gave the pair two weeks to decide whether or not to accept the offers.

Dyer’s case was adjourned to June 3. Renzi’s case was adjourned to June 6.

Police said Dyer and Renzi put their 6-month-old daughter, Elaina, to bed on the night of Aug. 27 and then did not check on her for more than 12 hours. Police said Dyer woke up in the morning and went to work without checking on the child, and Renzi did not check on the child until after 11 a.m.

Police said Renzi found the infant not breathing.

If this was a SIDS death then please go to trial make them prove the case. This will set a precedence for all others that go through the trauma of SIDS.

They are both guilty for leaving the baby alone for 12 hours and that's wrong what they did, but the judge is being easy on them. he should be more tougher on them and give them more years in prison than less years.
