PICK A PET: Fred, Darla and Bizarre
Anita’s Stevens-Swan Humane Society is looking for a very special person with a big heart to help Fred. He is a 14-year-old Plott Hound mix in need of a hospice foster home. Fred came in as a stray and no one came looking for him, which is so sad at his age. Fred is a total sweetheart when it comes to people, but has been selective with making doggy friends. He seems to prefer female dogs. Dog meets are always required. Fred does have some health issues, but the shelter will pay for all of his medical care. He has arthritis and a weak back end. He also has some very bad teeth and will need to return for some dental work in the near future. The shelter is waiting on some additional test results, but for any medical questions call 315-738-4357. Apply here to foster Fred: https://www.anitas-sshs.org/adopt/apply/Dog. Anita’s Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, 315-738-4357, www.anitas-sshs.org.
Darla is an adorable 4-year-old pitbull/boxer mix. Although she can be extremely shy around people that she meets for the first time, she becomes very loving and playful after a little while. She just needs time to get to know someone. She does get along very well with cats but would feel more comfortable in a home with no small children or other dogs. She likes things easy going and slow-paced, sort of like a lot of us humans do as well! The type of owner she is seeking would be someone who has a lot of time to give to her. She needs patience and extra TLC to help her slowly adjust to her new environment. Her favorite thing to do is play with her squeaky toys, so please have plenty of those on hand for her enjoyment! She loves going for walks and is proud of her good leash manners. What a wonderful, sweet companion this little lady would be. To visit Darlax, stop by the Humane Society of Rome, 6247 Lamphear Road, call 315-336-7070 or go to www.humanesocietyrome.com.
If you love her name, you will love her personality. It fits her perfectly. Bizarre may take a minute to warm up to you, as she shows her interest in you in a funny way. Once she has met you, she will love you forever. Bizarre still needs a little bit of leash work as she will tug on it when she gets excited, but she learns quickly. When Bizarre is happy, she bounces around and will swing her back end into you. We recommend a home willing to work on training and without young kids as she doesn’t realize her size and strength. She is a funny girl that will make you laugh. If you would like to meet her, stop by Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association, 7138 Sutherland Drive, Canastota, or call at 315-697-2796.
