Phoebe K. Hurlbut, 90, of Ava died Thursday, January 9, 2020 at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side. She was born October 2, 1929 in the Town of Western, the daughter of Lloyd and Florence Stroup Jones. Phoebe attended West Leyden School. On July 9, 1947, she married Gurdon Hurlbut, Sr. in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rome. He died July 13, 2012. Phoebe had worked at A&P and Great American. She retired, as a cook, from Pounder Hall, Oriskany.
She is survived by a daughter, Peggy L. Willson and her husband Joe; two sons, Donald Hurlbut and his wife, Sherrie and Gurdon Hurlbut Jr. and his wife, Valerie; a sister, Alma Jones; grandchildren, Stephen and Katherine; step grandchildren, Diane, Chad, Kristi, and Derek Jaquay; two very special like sons, Ronald Johnson and Marlin Schreiner; and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters; Lorna Dupen, Elizabeth Howard and Laura Schoff and three brothers; Robert, Arthur and Edward Jones.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Home for Funerals, Inc., 210 W. Court St., Rome. Spring interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Taberg.Relatives and friends may call at the Home for Funerals Monday, from 2 to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Rome, P.
