Patrick A. Murphy, 64, of Rome and formerly of Binghamton, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. He was born in Manhattan, NY, on December 16, 1953, the son of the late Robert and Kathleen Kerr Murphy. After graduating from Seton Catholic High School in Binghamton, Patrick served four years in the US Air Force while stationed at Griffiss Air Force Base. In 1976 Patrick married Veronica Sweet and although they parted ways in 2005, they remained lifelong friends.
Patrick worked for IBM in Endicott, NY, and Raleigh, NC, for several years before embarking on a second career with MetLife in Utica, NY, retiring in 2012.
He was a proud member of the NRA and gun collector. He was also an avid reader, and he had a tremendous wit and sense of humor which will be sorely missed.
Patrick is survived by a daughter, Rachel Hickman of Brooklyn; a son, Brian (Amber) Murphy of Vernon; three brothers, James Murphy of Austin, TX, Cary (Karen) Murphy of Hickory, NC, and Mark (Teresa) Murphy of Vero Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Andy, Adam, Alex, Alana, Jenna, and Layla; and nieces and nephews, Rob, Elizabeth, Michael, and Marissa.
