A parolee and registered sex offender convicted of possessing child pornography on his cell phone has been sentenced in Federal Court to 50 years in prison.

Shawn Bunnell, 35, of Utica, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby on Tuesday to 600 months in federal prison, followed by a lifetime of post-release supervision, on 10 counts of transportation of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

Authorities said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Google that child pornography had been uploaded to the internet through a Google server. Authorities said they were able to trace the internet connection to Bunnell in Utica. Authorities said Bunnell used the cell phone to produce a video of a toddler being molested, and that he uploaded numerous files of kiddie porn between May and August 2017.

Bunnell was previously convicted in March 2003 of first-degree sex abuse, for which he was sentenced to five years in state prison and registered as a Level 3 sex offender, according to state records.
