The Parkway Center, Memorial Parkway, Utica, received a $2,000 grant from the Slocum-Dickson Foundation for its Matter of Balance program. Matter of Balance was developed by Boston University and primarily addresses individuals who have a fear of falling, or who have fallen and need help to become active again.
MOB is designed to manage falls and increase activity levels to view falls as controllable.
The program has been provided at no cost to 420 participants throughout the last three years. In order to continue providing this program at no cost, it has been provided with the grant funding.
Parkway Center has been serving the senior community for more than 60 years, and is the largest senior center in Oneida and Herkimer counties. Its mission is to provide programs and services to individuals age 50-plus, empowering them to live healthy and vibrant lives. In an effort to meet this mission, the Parkway Center hired a Master Trainer for the Matter of Balance Program of Oneida County in 2016.
